Yellow catfish(Pelteobagrus fulvidraco)is an important small and medium-sized fish in freshwater aquaculture in China.Due to the small number of female broodstock and poor reproductive performance,the industrial development has reached a sluggish period.Wheat germ is a plant-based nutritional material that benefits the body,including reproductive system functions.In this study,the female broodstock of yellow catfish(825fish each)in two periods of spring cultivation and postpartum cultivation were used as the test objects.To investigate the effects of wheat germ on the survival,liver health,plasma biochemical indexes and reproductive performance of yellow catfish female broodstock by feeding 5 groups of diets with different wheat germ supplements(0,5%,10%,15%,20%),to verify its feasibility as a feed ingredient for female broodstock.In the spring cultivation stage,wheat germ significantly improved the survival rate of female broodstock of yellow catfish,and the survival rate reached the maximum when the addition amount was 14.73%.When the dosage was 10.80%~13.5%,the activities of liver antioxidant enzymes and non-specific immune enzymes reached the highest level.Supplementation up to 15% increased plasma glucose(GLU),decreased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),and increased low/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C/HDL-C)ratio.In conclusion,it is suggested to add 10.80%-14.73% wheat germ to the feed of the female broodstock of yellow catfish in spring to improve the physique of the female broodstock and increase the reuse rate of the female broodstock.In the post-production post-cultivation stage,the addition of 5% and 15% of wheat germ significantly improved the survival rate of female broodstock of yellow catfish.If the amount of wheat germ added exceeds 5%,the fertilization rate will be significantly reduced.When the addition amount reached 20%,the fry deformity rate was the highest,the length of newly hatched larvae was the smallest.In conclusion,it is suggested that adding 5% wheat germ to the feed of female broodstock of yellow catfish during postpartum breeding can not only restore the postpartum health of broodstock and improve the survival rate,but also will not adversely affect the quality of eggs and larvae.In both experiments,wheat germ showed that it could not improve the reproductive performance of female broodstock of yellow catfish,but it was beneficial to the health of female broodstock of yellow catfish and significantly improved the survival rate.Therefore,wheat germ could be developed as feed for female broodstock of yellow catfish.raw material.This study provides basic data and reference for the application and function of wheat germ in the breeding of female fish,and also provides ideas for the development of the same type of raw materials.
