The 20 th CPC National Congress emphasized the construction of socialist ecological civilization and further promoted the prevention and control of environmental pollution. In recent years, under the guidance of the spirit of "precise pollution control, scientific pollution control, and pollution control according to law," the overall development of China’s ecological environment has been significantly improved, and good results have been achieved in the battle to prevent and control air pollution. However, due to the lack of attention from the perspective of agriculture and the influence of China’s basic national conditions, the increasing tension of resources and environmental constraints is particularly serious in agriculture. The modernization of agriculture and rural areas is an integral part of China’s goal of transforming its economy to high-quality development It is urgent to achieve low-carbon and green sustainable development of agriculture, improve and optimize the agricultural development environment and improve agricultural production efficiency.Over the past seven years, the added value of China’s digital economy has always maintained a growth rate of about15 per cent, far exceeding the growth rate of China’s nominal GDP.In 2021,the scale of China’s digital economy will reach 45 trillion yuan, accounting for nearly 40% of GDP.The era dividend released by the digital economy is spreading to various industries at a very rapid rate.According to the theory of endogenous growth and environmental economics, digital economy can optimize and upgrade the development mode, development structure and resource allocation of the economic system while promoting the rapid expansion of economic scale,so as to complete the green transformation of the system.Exploring the green potential of digital economy in agriculture and promoting the deep and sustainable integration of digital economy and agriculture have become an important starting point to realize rural revitalization and agricultural and rural modernization. Therefore,it is of great practical significance to explore the green effect and influence mechanism of digital economy in Chinese agriculture. This paper focuses on the impact of digital economy on the green development of China’s agriculture. The structure of the article is as follows: first of all,it describes the agricultural environmental issues and the current situation of the development of digital economy in China, better grasp the research background of this article, sort out and summarize the relevant policies and documents at home and abroad, and focuses on the analysis of views and practices.on this basis, clarify the research issues, research methods and significance of this paper.Secondly, define the conceptual characteristics of agricultural carbon emissions, digital economy and agricultural total factor productivity, and deepen the understanding of the impact of digital economy on agricultural low-carbon development. Then, according to endogenous economic growth theory, environmental economics theory and total factor productivity theory, introduce the perspective of agricultural total factor productivity to explore and analyze the role of digital economy in enabling low-carbon green development of agriculture. Then, according to the relevant statistical data and measurement methods,we select 2014-2020 as the research interval and 30 provinces(cities and districts)in China as the research samples to build the evaluation index system of China’s agricultural carbon emissions and China’s agricultural digital economy development respectively, and comprehensively measure the development of agricultural digital economy and carbon emissions in all regions.According to the measured results, the spatial heterogeneity of digital economy development and carbon emissions in different dimensions and regions are analyzed and discussed. Then the panel data model and the intermediary effect model with agricultural total factor productivity as intermediary variables are established and a series of robustness tests are carried out to improve the credibility of the empirical model. Finally, according to the main conclusions of this paper, the corresponding policy recommendations are given. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: First, the development of agricultural and rural digital economy has been promoted to different degrees in all regions of China.Meanwhile, the development situation of agricultural and rural digital economy in the three regions presents an unbalanced development trend. The development level of rural digital economy in eastern China is obviously higher than that in central and western China.Second, digital economy can significantly reduce agricultural carbon emission intensity, but such emission reduction effect has obvious regional heterogeneity like the development level of agricultural digital economy. The effect of carbon emission reduction of agricultural digital economy has diminishing marginal effect, and the emission reduction effect of western region is obviously better than that of eastern and central regions Third,in the process of reducing the intensity of agricultural carbon emissions in the digital economy, agricultural total factor productivity plays a part of the intermediary effect, accounting for 31.1%.Through the application of agricultural digital economy, the agricultural industry can obtain more economies of scale and technological progress to improve agricultural total factor productivity, agricultural total factor productivity by reducing production costs and reducing intermediate material consumption, optimize the allocation of resources and reduce the intensity of agricultural carbon emissions. In order to further guide the deep integration of the digital economy and the agricultural green industrial chain, and build the benchmark of high-quality green development of agriculture, this paper puts forward the following policy suggestions:(1)Vigorously develop the digital economy in the backward central and western regions, support the construction of gradient digital talents in the central and western regions, and increase investment in rural education and digital infrastructure construction.(2)tap the agricultural carbon reduction potential and characteristics of digital economy, increase the application scenarios of agricultural digital technology, strengthen policy guidance and support for the development of digital economy to green agriculture, and deeply study the integration path of digital economy and agriculture.Improve the supporting mechanism of digital economy to support the green transformation of agriculture.(3)continuously and steadily improve agricultural total factor productivity, optimize agricultural factor quality and improve agricultural total factor productivity with the help of digital empowerment, and give full play to the key role of agricultural total factor productivity in the process of green development of digital economy.(4)promote regional digital low-carbon technology cooperation and innovation, comprehensively develop the resources and cost advantages of the central and western regions and the talent and technological advantages of the east, guide the west to undertake the computing power and resource needs of the east, and optimize the distribution of digital resources throughout the country.promoting the coordinated green development of agriculture in the east and west.
