Health is an important factor that affects the well-being of an individual’s life and an important goal of social and economic development.Since the reform and opening up,with the economic development and the continuous improvement of material living standards,China has made great achievements in the field of health, but the health inequality among residents has gradually been exposed.According to the principle of fairness and justice,China began to implement the reform of the medical system focusing on the rural and grass-roots levels, medical insurance as an important component has had a certain impact on the health inequality of rural residents. This study uses CFPS2016 data to analyze the current status of health inequality faced by rural residents in China through the concentration index, and explores the contribution of basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents to health inequality through decomposition of the concentration index. And through logistic regression to test the robustness. At the same time, the two models proved that the impact of the basic medical insurance system on the medical burden of rural residents, trying to explain how basic medical insurance can improve the health inequality of rural residents. The research conclusions of this paper are as follows: There are health inequalities among wealthy people in China ’s rural residents, and factors such as income, education, and region have exacerbated the health of rural residents Inequality. The medical insurance for urban and rural residents alleviates the health inequality of rural residents. Its mechanism can be presumed because the medical insurance for urban and rural residents will include more low-income rural residents into the insurance, and after participating in the insurance,it will reduce the medical expenses of rural residents. And increase the probability of self-financed medical expenditures, promote the use of medical services by low-income rural residents, improve their health, and ease health inequality. However, due to the existence of certain problems in the current medical insurance for urban and rural residents, its mitigation effect is limited.Based on the research results, this study proposes the following measures to further alleviate the health inequality of rural residents: first, worry about the current medical insurance for urban and rural residents, and improve the protection benefits;second, from narrowing the income gap, promoting education fairness, and reducing interregion The economic gap and other angles narrow the differences in the socioeconomic status of rural residents;third, improve the health literacy of rural residents and form a healthy lifestyle.
