Study On The Relationship Between The Choroidal Thickness And Hormone Levels With Central Serous Chorioretinopathy

Objective: To investigate whether the choroidal thickness in central serous chorioretinopathy is related to the level of endogenous hormones.Methods: A case-control study was conducted.A total of 47 male patients with central serous chorioretinopathy diagnosed by fundus photography,fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA),indocyanine green angiography(ICGA)and optical coherence tomography(OCT)in the ophthalmology clinic of the affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University from July 2020 to October 2021 were collected,and15 healthy young and middle-aged men in the same period were collected as the control group.The study group was further divided into central type group and peripheral type group according to the distance between the position of fluorescence leakage under FFA and the fovea of macula.In the central type group,the radius of fluorescein leakage point from the macular fovea was within 1mm,and in the peripheral type group,the distance between the leakage point and the fovea radius was beyond 1mm.The smoking,drinking and sleep of the study group and the control group were statistically analyzed,and BCVA,intraocular pressure and eye axis were measured.The macular choroidal thickness was measured by enhanced depth imaging-optical coherence tomography(EDI-OCT)at 2-5 p.m,measured at the subfoveal choroidal thickness(SFCT),above the fovea,below,nasal and temporal 750 μm,and the average macular choroidal thickness was the average of the five positions.Blood samples were taken from the control and patient groups corresponding to the measuring time,the levels of epinephrine,norepinephrine,dopamine,cortisol,aldosterone,total testosterone and estradiol were measured by radioimmunoassay.Results: 1.There was no significant difference in age,smoking,drinking and sleep between the study group and the control group(P=0.074,0.053,0.195,0.350).2.There were significant differences in the average choroidal thickness between the affected eyes and the contralateral eyes in the study group and the control group(P < 0.05).There was no significant difference in the average macular choroidal thickness between the affected eyes and the contralateral eyes in the study group(P>0.05).there was no significant difference in the average macular choroidal thickness between the central type group and the peripheral type group(P>0.05).3.The levels of norepinephrine and total testosterone in the study group were significantly different from those in the control group(P < 0.05).4.There was a positive correlation between the average macular choroidal thickness and norepinephrine and total testosterone(P<0.05,P<0.001;r=0.273,r=0.416).5.Norepinephrine is the main factor that affect the average choroidal thickness in macular area of CSC.Conclusion: 1.The average macular choroidal thickness of the affected eyes and the contralateral eyes of CSC was thicker than that of the healthy people,but there was no difference in the average macular choroidal thickness between the affected eyes and the contralateral eyes.2.CSC is closely related to the increase of norepinephrine and total testosterone,and the levels of endogenous norepinephrine and total testosterone are positively correlated with the average choroidal thickness of macular area.3.Norepinephrine is the main factor affecting the average choroidal thickness in macular area of CSC.
