| Objective:The study was designed to investigate the status of anxiety and depression among employees from a chemical company in Jilin Province. The study examined the prevalence of anxiety and depression among employees, and explored potential influencing factors of anxiety and depression including basic social demographic characteristics,self-rated job satisfaction, challenging and obstructive stress, and psychological capital.In-depth analysis of the interaction between the influencing factors and the path of action on anxiety and depression symptoms,to provide a scientific basis for the proposed targeted measures to improve the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Methods:In this study, employees from a chemical company located in Jilin Province were recruited as participants. In August 2019,random cluster sampling method was adopted to conduct a self-filling questionnaire survey.Out of 3150 copies of questionnaire collected,3028 copies were identified as valid for analysis, with a 96.12%effective recovery rate. The questionnaire included socio-demographic characteristics,self-rated job satisfaction, challenging and obstructive stress scale, psychological capital scale, anxiety and depression scale.Data from questionnaires were coded into computer with Epidata 3.1 software to build the database.Harman single factor test was used to test the bias effect of common methods.Descriptive analysis,t test, analysis of variance, multiple linear regression and mediating effect test were used as statistical methods.0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:(1)Among the 3028 employees surveyed,635 employees had anxiety symptoms, accounting for 21.0% of the total number, among which 16.6% had mild symptoms,3.4% had moderate symptoms, and 1.0% had severe symptoms. There were 687 patients with depressive symptoms, accounting for 22.7%,among which 17.6% had mild symptoms,3.9% had moderate symptoms and 1.2% had severe symptoms.(2)In terms of social demographic characteristics, age, marital status, education level and department had statistically significant effects on anxiety and depression symptoms of employees(P< 0.05).In terms of self-assessed job satisfaction, the difference in salary system attitude, management system attitude, promotion system attitude, colleague relationship attitude, company environment attitude and working conditions resources contributed significant on employees’ anxiety and depression symptoms(P< 0.05).(3)Variables that produce statistically significant results from single factor regression analysis were set as dummy variables, and incorporated into multiple linear regression analysis with dependent variables. The results showed that employees’ anxiety symptoms were significantly influenced by age, marital status, department, salary system attitude, colleague relationship attitude, company environment attitude and working condition resources(P<0.05).The employees’ depression symptoms were significantly influenced by age, marital status, department, salary system attitude, colleague relationship attitude and working conditions resources(P<0.05).(4)The results of this study showed that the score of anxiety and depression symptoms were(1.59±0.70)and(1.64±0.73)respectively.The score of challenging stress and obstructive stress were(16.25±6.03)and(12.24±4.98),and the score of psychological capital score was(103.20±19.81).Significant correlations were found between all variables.(5)The model was constructed with challenging and obstructive stress as the independent variable, psychological capital as the mediating variable, anxiety and depression symptoms as the dependent variable, and the common influencing factors of anxiety and depression as the covariable. In the single mediation model, the mediating effect of psychological capital on the relationship between challenging stress and anxiety, and between challenging stress and depression symptoms was 30.8%and 32.6%,respectively.The mediating effect of psychological capital on the relationship between obstructive stress and anxiety symptoms, and between obstructive stress and depressive symptoms was 37.3% and 37.2%,respectively.In the integrated structural equation model, the fitting indexes are all within the standard range, and the mediating effect of psychological capital remains. Conclusion:Employees from a chemical company in Jilin Province showed high prevalence anxiety and depression.People that characterized as old, divorced or widowed, lower education level, logistic department, and who are dissatisfied with the company’s salary system, management system, promotion system, colleague relationship, environment and working conditions scored higher on anxiety and depression scales.Challenging and obstructive stress not only directly affect employees’ anxiety and depression symptoms, but also indirectly affect employees’ anxiety and depression symptoms through the mediating effect of psychological capital.Enterprise managers should pay attention to improving the setting and fairness of relevant systems in the company to create a good working environment. At the same time, they can also start from improving the level of psychological capital of employees to reduce the incidence of anxiety and depression symptoms of employees. |
