Objective:Through a clinical randomized controlled trial, this study aims to observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture with "Three Areas and Three Lines" combined with the original and the complementary acupoints with electro-acupuncture on patients with moderate to severe chronic insomnia, and to compare the difference in efficacy with traditional acupuncture,in order to find a stable and effective acupuncture treatment method, enrich clinical treatment options, and expand the advantages of acupuncture in treating insomnia. Methods:After reviewing relevant literature at home and abroad, inclusion and exclusion criteria were formulated.66 patients with moderate to severe chronic insomnia who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group, with 33 cases in each group. The control group received routine acupuncture treatment, and the treatment group received acupuncture with "Three Zones and Three Lines" combined with the original and complementary acupoints of the Heart and Pericardium meridians, and electro-acupuncture.Before treatment, basic sleep hygiene education was provided to both groups of patients. Each course of treatment lasted for 1 week, and a total of 4 courses were conducted. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA),Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD),and Insomnia Severity Index(ISI)were used to evaluate and compare the clinical efficacy of the treatment group and the control group before and after treatment.Results:1.Before treatment, there was no significant difference in the total score and each item score of PSQI,HAMA,HAMD,and ISI between the two groups(P>0.05),indicating comparability;2.Within-group comparison of PSQI total score,HAMA,HAMD,and ISI before and after treatment showed significant differences(P<0.01)in both groups, indicating that both treatment methods have efficacy in improving clinical symptoms of insomnia;3.Between-group comparison of PSQI total score and each item score,HAMA,HAMD,and ISI before and after treatment showed significant differences(P<0.01),indicating that the treatment group’s treatment method can effectively reduce PSQI score, relieve insomnia, anxiety, and depression, and enhance sleep quality.Conclusions:1.Acupuncture with "Three Areas and Three Lines" combined with the original and complementary acupoints with electro-acupuncture and traditional acupuncture both have definite efficacy in improving the sleep quality of patients with moderate to severe insomnia.2.Acupuncture with "Three Areas and Three Lines" combined with the original and complementary acupoints with electro-acupuncture is more effective than traditional acupuncture in treating moderate to severe insomnia.
