Objective: Exploring the worth of fecal calprotectin in the diagnosis, categorization, and prognosis of primary nephrotic syndrome is the aim. Methods: In this study,64 children diagnosed with primary nephrotic syndrome in the pediatric department of our hospital from November 2021 to December 2022 were divided into two groups, according to the level of fecal calprotectin. To explore the differences between the two groups in general clinical data, recurrence and the effect of hormone treatment.Results:1.In this study,a total of 64 kids who fulfilled the requirements were included, comprising 39 boys(60.94%),25 girls(39.06%),with a male/female ratio of 1.6,all aged between 1 and 14 years. No noteworthy distinction in gender, age was observed between the elevated fecal calprotectin level group and the normal fecal calprotectin level group(P> 0.05).2.No noteworthy divergence was seen between the elevated fecal calprotectin group and the normal fecal calprotectin group(P> 0.05)in terms of serum Ig G,serum albumin, creatinine, cholesterol, triglyceride, and 24-hour urinary protein.(P> 0.05).3.No noteworthy divergence was seen between the elevated fecal calprotectin group and the normal fecal calprotectin group(P> 0.05)in terms of serum Ig G,serum albumin, creatinine, cholesterol, triglyceride, and 24-hour urinary protein.(P=0.046).4.The fecal calprotectin level of the recurrent group was significantly greater than that of the non-recurrent group, with a statistically significant difference(P=0.039).5.The fecal calprotectin level of the steroid sensitivity group was lower than that in the steroid resistant group, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.006).6.When the cutoff value of fecal calprotectin level was 39.6ug/g,the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis were respectively 39.6% and 93.7%.7.The Spearman correlation showed that there was no relationship between the fecal calprotectin level and the serum IgE levelConclusions:1.This study shows that fecal calprotectin can serve as a potential biomarker for primary nephrotic syndrome, which has a role in predicting recurrence in children2.Fecal calprotectin level can help distinguish steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome from steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome.3.When the cutoff value of fecal calprotectin level was 39.6ug/g,the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis were respectively 39.6% and 93.7%.4.There was no correlation between fecal calprotectin level and IgE level.
