| Nowadays,with the rapid development of economy,technology and network culture,new words are emerging one after another.Pin X is a typical construction that has been widely used in recent years.Previous studies on pin X construction are mainly confined to the superficial description of its syntactic and semantic functions,as well as the preliminary analysis of its pragmatic motivation.The features of pin X construction,the underlying cognitive rationales and the impact of different admitted parts of speech on its semantic construction have yet to be carried out.On the basis of the research background,this study will focus on the following questions: What are the features of pin X construction? How are pin and X integrated into a construction?What accounts for the popularization of pin X construction?In order to answer the above questions,this study firstly describes the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic features of pin X construction by analyzing the corpus data from the Center for Chinese Linguistics(CCL)corpus and the internet.Then,from the perspective of cognitive grammar,this thesis investigates the integration mechanism of pin X construction based on autonomy/dependence alignment model.Finally,this thesis summarizes the motivations for the generalization and popularization of pin X construction from the internal and external factors of language.Research findings are as follows:Firstly,pin X construction can be used as subject,predicate,object and attribute in sentences.The parts of speech of X include noun,verb,adjective,auxiliary word and quantifier.Pin X can be classified into verb-object structure,verb-complement structure and serial verb structure.The meaning of pin X construction is inseparable from the choice of X.According to the data analysis,when X is an action verb indicating connection,a noun for separate things that can be put together,a quantifier for united object or a state adjective,the constructional meaning of pin X can be “to unite and combine”;when X is a tendency verb,an action verb indicating competition,a state adjective or a quantifier for action,pin X means “to fight recklessly”;when X is a noun of commodity,an auxiliary word or a quantifier for commodity,the semantic meaning of pin X can be “to consume or do something together”;when X is a relational noun or an abstract noun indicating the competitive relations between things,the semantic meaning of pin X can be “to compete”.Therefore,pin X construction has roughly four main meanings: to unite and combine;to fight recklessly;to consume or do something together;to compete.The former two are conventional meanings,and the latter two are extended meanings.Pin X construction is widely used in the fields of economy,politics,work,study and entertainment.Secondly,pin as a verb,is generally a dependent component,profiling an abstract substructure as an elaboration site.X is generally an autonomous component,and its substructure makes a specific explanation to the elaboration site.The correspondence between the two substructures is established,so pin and X are constituted into pin X construction.The meaning of pin X construction relies on its components and composite structure.Thirdly,the internal motivations for the generalization and popularization of pin X construction can be attributed to language economy and productivity.Its external motivations are related to online shopping,politics in the post epidemic era,social atmosphere and so on.This study summarizes the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic features of pin X construction,which enriches the studies on pin X construction.Based on autonomy/dependence alignment model,this thesis demonstrates the integration mechanism of pin X construction,deepens the explanatory power of cognitive grammar to modern Chinese construction.The results of this study will be helpful for Chinese learners at home and abroad to better understand pin X construction,and it also has certain references for the teaching of Chinese construction. |
