| The simulated C-E simultaneous interpreting practice of this interpreting project was based on the lecture—Yan Zhenqing: Take all Risks given by Mr.Yu Zhonghua,a famous contemporary calligrapher,delivered in Pudong Library in Shanghai on November 16,2019.This lecture,from a new perspective,introduces the works and experiences of Yan Zhenqing,a calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty.The most important feature of the project is that it contains many words and expressions with special cultural background,that is,Culture-bound Words,which is also the key and difficult point of this practice.Culture-bound Words refer to words that are subject to cultures in certain countries such as customs,lifestyles,traditions,history,political events,etc.Due to the short time for interpreting and interpreters’ limited energy,a large number of Culture-bound Words are more likely to hinder the information fluency,integrity and effectiveness of this interpreting practice,thus affecting the cross-cultural communication function of simultaneous interpreting.By analyzing the difficulties in this project and referring to many researchers in this area,the interpreter,based on professor Hu’s classification of Culture-bound Words,divides Culture-bound Words causing difficulties into two categories: 1)difficulties caused by culture-specific words;2)difficulties caused by idioms.With the theoretical framework of Skopos Theory,this report proposes corresponding coping tactics for solving the difficulties: 1)explaining culture-specific words by paraphrasing,contextual amplification and transliteration plus annotation;2)expressing the core meaning of idioms by omission,substitution and paraphrasing.The report discusses and explores the difficulties caused by Cultural-bound Words and its coping tactics during the C-E simultaneous interpreting,thus,providing some useful guidance and references for the author and other interpreters to better cope with similar linguistic difficulties in simultaneous interpreting. |
