Under the influence of the traditional ethical norms of "three principles and five rules" and the gender division of labor"men’s workcenters around outside, women’s workcenters around the home",the solidified notion that women do not go out of the gate is deeply rooted in people’s minds. For thousands of years, women have been regarded as objects of oppression and bondage under the patriarchal system by default. However, the status of women has not remained unchanged throughout history. As autonomous individuals, women have accepted the social responsibilities assigned to them, while actively participating in activities within a limited space and even changing the mainstream social consciousness by their own behavior,as long as conditions allow and without breaking the existing rules and order. The thesis takes Han Dynasty women as the object of study, and examines the image of women presented in different dimensions such as political space, social space, and family space,to understand the external environment of their lives and explore their inner world from different perspectives.First, from the perspective of political participation, women show certain desire and ignorance of female subjectivity, but at the same time, there is also the role of space in limiting women’s desires during the Han Dynasty, and combing through men’s attitudes toward women’s political participation can provide a glimpse of their expectations of the ideal woman.Secondly, from the viewpoint of social space, women’s activities are rich and varied, and it is conducive to broadening the group activities of different genders in the public space during the historical period by deeply exploring the obliterated female figures in the long history. Finally, from the perspective of the female body,it reveals the moral and ethical, cultural rules and legal provisions on women’s rights and duties, and examines the construction of the image of women at the social level and women’s related responses. The paper points out that although the Han Dynasty established a complete system of norms for both genders,a look at the ideal moral order and the actual behavior of women in their lives reveals women’s efforts to actively expand and play with the unequal gender norms in the flexible space of the internal and external order.
