As an important force in the social structure, women play an invaluable role in maintaining harmonious family relations, creating a stable social atmosphere, and promoting national prosperity.Indonesian women play an important role in social stability and national development. The social status of women mainly includes political participation, education level, employment rights and legal status.Since independence,Indonesia has experienced three periods: the "old order era",the "new order era" and the "reform era."Domestic research on the social status of Indonesian women is relatively small, and foreign studies on Indonesian women have done relatively well. However, the overall research on Indonesian women's social status since independence has not been covered at home and abroad. The purpose of this paper is to study the evolution of the social status of Indonesian women in the “old order era”,“new order era” and “reform era” since Indonesia's independence. The social status of Indonesian women during this period was not static, but experienced a process of development from low to high. This is mainly reflected in the four aspects of female education, employment rights, political participation and legal status. The change in the social status of Indonesian women is the result of a combination of multiple factors. This not only originates from the social tradition of the dual-system in Southeast Asia,Indonesia's local culture with a higher status of women,Islam's localization in Indonesia, but also a high sense of family responsibility with women, national policies, concerns of international organizations and close economic development. The rise of Indonesian women's social status does not come overnight, but is the result of efforts of all aspects.Although women's social status has improved, they are also constrained by the patriarchal structure and social traditional culture,as well as Indonesia's national ideology.Although the leaders of Indonesia implemented reforms,it was very difficult to eliminate discrimination against women.Even if there were female presidents, they did not pay much attention to women rights because she was the representative of elite politics. However, with the development of the economy, the awakening of women themselves and the widespread concern of the international community, coupled with the limited concessionsmade by the state leaders to safeguard their rule, have failed to prevent the improvement of Indonesian women's social status.
