Study On Stoic Cosmology

The Stoic cosmology is the foundation of the Stoicism of philosophy and the dynamic cosmology is an important feature of Stoic cosmology.The arche takes a fundamental position in the Stoic cosmology.Regarding the proof that the universe is material,the Stoicism has drawn on the thoughts of Plato and Aristotle on materialism,forming a unique theory of material origin.It is developed on the basis of cosmobiology.As for the origin of the universe,combining the most reasonable Aristotle’s cosmology and the latest biological theory at that time,the Stoics proved that the universe has an origin and demonstrated the process of the origin of the universe.The Stoics made the difference between creative heat and ordinary destructive fire,and explained the difference between ordinary fire and the rotating,creative celestial elements.The Stoics believed that God actively exists in the world,and manifests himself as the existence of the whole nature and natural vitality,and that God ensures the stability,continuity and permanence of the universe.The Stoics acknowledged the existence of "nothingness".The Stoics inherited Aristotle’s theory of the motion of the elements and the explanation that the earth does not move in the universe.In addition,through their own original balance theory,the Stoics also proved that the earth is stationary in the universe,and constructed a basic model of the universe’s operation.Inheriting the cosmological cycle theory that originated in ancient Greek mythology,the Stoics demonstrated that the universe is in an eternal cycle by refuting other cosmology theories.Through biological analogy,the Stoics explained the cosmological cycle as the periodic motion of growth and reproduction,thus creating a unique cosmological cycle theory.By comparing Stoics with other philosophical thoughts,this paper further discovers the origin of Stoic cosmology,and how Stoic cosmology drew wisdom from previous theories to establish their own system,and defines the origin and originality of Stoic cosmology.
