The newspaper vendors are the link between newspaper and readers.In modern Chinese newspaper distribution,newspaper vendors have always played an important role.As a professional group derived from the newspaper industry,the newspaper vendors are often regarded as the bottom group with weak strength.However,in fact,modern newspaper vendors formed groups and organizations,monopolized the power of newspaper distribution,also had considerable potential power in society.Through the restriction of newspaper distribution,newspaper vendors also have the power to negotiate and game with newspaper offices.Under the interweaving of interests,modern newspaper vendors and newspaper offices formed a complex interactive relationship,which not only depended on each other for cooperation,but also played games with each other for profits.On the one hand,newspaper vendors depended on the newspaper industry for survival.The emergence of newspaper vendors also greatly facilitated the distribution and sale of newspapers and promoted the development of modern journalism.On the other hand,in order to exploit the distribution profits as much as possible,newspaper vendors arbitrarily raise the quotation,change the form of newspaper sales,and even directly affect newspaper operation,threaten the newspaper offices with strike.There are often disputes between newspaper vendors and newspaper offices.Considering the overall situation,newspapers can only be more tolerant at ordinary times.However,in order to completely get rid of the shackles of distribution,the newspaper office continues to try to run its own distribution,but due to various practical reasons,it is always difficult to achieve good results.This kind of interaction and game relationship between newspaper vendors and newspaper offices is not only a special picture of modern Chinese newspaper industry,but also a unique window for us to see through the history of modern journalism.For a long time,the journalism historiography researchers have not paid enough attention to the newspaper vendor group,and the relevant research is scarce.Existing literature from the perspective of history,more focus on the lives and organization of newspaper vendors,or discusses the manipulation of newspaper vendors on the distribution of modern newspaper industry from the perspective of newspaper distribution,and lacks in-depth research on the interaction between newspaper vendors and modern Chinese journalism.This paper attempts to further explore this issue from the macro perspective of journalistic history.Taking modern newspaper vendors as the main research object,using the knowledge and methods of history,journalism and other disciplines,this paper aims to sort out the evolution track and group characteristics of modern newspaper vendors through the systematic analysis of literature,explore the position and role of newspaper vendors in modern journalism,restore the complex interactive relationship between newspaper vendors and the newspaper industry,so as to present the real history of modern newspaper industry.
