| In recent years,China has become more and more closely associated with other countries in the world in politics,economy and culture.With its increasingly prominent role in the global governance system,the country’s demand for international talents with international vision and understanding of international rules has become urgent which came up with a new challenge for school education.As the leader in a foreign language classroom,teachers’ cultural teaching competence directly affects the effect and quality of teaching activities,which is related to whether the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness can be realized.Therefore,targeted at the foreign language teachers in primary and secondary schools,this study adopts mixed research method to answer the following questions:(1)What are the core elements of foreign language teachers’ teaching competence in cultivating students’ cultural awareness?(2)What are the main characteristics of foreign language teachers’ teaching competence in cultivating students’cultural awareness?(3)What are the problems or challenges in the development of foreign language teachers’ teaching competence in cultivating students’ cultural awareness?To answer the above research questions,on the one hand,based on the relevant literature at home and abroad,the author the author constructs a theoretical framework of foreign language teachers’ teaching competence in primary and secondary schools,and further compiles a self-test scale to collect and analyze data.Based on the test and adjustment of effective prediction samples,the study combined with 430 formal samples to make exploratory factor analysis,and finally formed a theoretical framework of the core elements of foreign language teachers’ teaching competence in cultivating students’cultural awareness.On the other hand,in order to further understand the current situation,main characteristics and the difficulties or challenges during development of foreign language teachers’ teaching competence in cultivating students’ cultural awareness,we conducted in-depth interviews with three primary and secondary school teachers,and used Atlas.ti software to sort out,analyze and encode the qualitative data obtained.The findings are as follows:firstly,there are five core elements of foreign language teachers’ teaching competence in cultivating students’ cultural awareness,respectively teaching cognitive competence,teaching design competence,speculative teaching competence,inquiry experience teaching competence and teaching monitoring competence;secondly,based on the analysis of the current situation,the characteristics of foreign language teachers’ teaching ability oriented by cultural awareness are summarized,which mainly include the following three points:(1)emphasizing the cultivation of cultural awareness and strengthening the self-confidence of Chinese culture;(2)paying attention to the teaching operation competence and following the principles of authenticity,interest and inclusiveness;(3)obeying the rule of students’ development and seeking diversified teaching monitoring;thirdly,there are two difficulties and challenges for teachers in the developing the cultural awareness-oriented teaching competence:(1)the opportunity cost for teachers to cultivate students’ cultural awareness is high;(2)the plateau phenomenon dilemma of teachers’ teaching competence development.In order to break through the dilemma of teachers’ development,the author puts forward the following two practical inspirations:(1)implementing the matching of cultural resources and making the cultural content orderly;(2)promoting the specialization of cultural training and establishing a cultural teaching and research community.To sum up,focusing on the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness in the core literacy,integrating the requirements of curriculum standards for teachers’ teaching competence,this study builds a theoretical framework of foreign language teachers’teaching competence in cultivating students’ cultural awareness based on existing theoretical research,and further explains the connotation and characteristics of each core element in the framework with the analysis and discussion of qualitative data.This study enriches the theoretical system of teachers’ teaching competence in cultivating students’cultural awareness,and tries to put forward practical enlightenment based on evidence-based research results,which is conducive to promoting the improvement of teachers’ cultural teaching competence,implementing the requirements of the new curriculum standard,cultivating and improving students’ cultural awareness level,and truly achieving the core literacy of the subject. |
