| Realizing cultural confidence is the historical mission for today’s Chinese people.Learning history,understanding history,and spreading Chinese civilization are compulsory courses for the youth.For a translator,telling Chinese stories well has profound practical significance.This report is based on the translation of Volume 4 in the series of China’s History Written to Children.Firstly,it analyzes the characteristics of children’s reading materials and the characteristics of the original text.Secondly,it reviews the background of Skopos Theory and the theorectical frame of three rules in Skopos detailedly,especially Vermeer’s Skopos Theory,which is the fundamental translation theory adopted to analyze the translation problems.Then,after an introduction of the translation process,this report explores the specific problems encountered in the translation process and the solutions to them under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos Theory.At last,a detailed analysis of specific cases is provided.It is summarized that special attention needs to be paid to the translation of cultural-loaded words when translating historical and cultural texts as well as syntactic and contextual differences between Chinese and English,all of which can be explored under the guidance of Skopos theory.It is hoped that this translation report can provide a reference for future translation of texts about Chinese history and culture. |
