| The pipa concerto "Flying Fairies of the Silk Road" is a work created by pipa performer Zhao Cong for the large-scale music performance "Silk Road".This repertoire is created according to the characters in the murals of the "Variations on the Sutra of the Immeasurable Reception" in the Mogao Caves at Dunhuang,the frescoes of Caves 148 in the Tang Dynasty,and the "Variations on the Western Pure Land" in Cave 220.The inspiration for "Flying Fairies of the Silk Road" is closely linked to the Dunhuang frescoes.Therefore,the essay will explore the composer’s concept and the music’s thematic images in the context of the researcher’s own performance practice,starting with the performance practice in this repertoire.Three sections of the article are: a composition and structure analysis;a musical themes and performance technique analysis;and a transmission and innovation of performance technique analysis.The essay starts off by thoroughly examining the musical elements of the elements of the repertoire and music structure and outing its principles.In order to correlate the changes in performance techniques in the musical theme with the portrayal of the musician in the Dunhuang frescoes,it also analysis the musical theme,looking for a relationship between the musical images portrayed in the musical theme and the melodic development.Finally,"point," "line," "piece," and "surface" are used as shorthand for the all four components of the technique used in this research.This is a further explore into the development and transmission of the performance approaches.In this repertoire,the innovation of the playing techniques in the music is specifically reflected in the diversity of pipa playing techniques.The composer combines the basic playing techniques to change the way of playing,thereby showing the richness of pipa performance techniques in "Flying Fairies of the Silk Road".The article focuses on the musical themes of composition,investigating the connections between the pipa concerto ’s performance techniques and the musical themes of the five Dunhuang murals.By examining the performance style of this repertoire,I intend to offer a fresh perspective on pipa music creation and to encourage the performance of pipa music works by combining pipa music creation with a logical approach to performance. |
