| The National English Curriculum Standard for General Senior High Schools(2017 Edition Revised in 2020),hereafter referred to as The Standard,puts forward that students should cultivate the key English literacy which are linguistic competency,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.It is clear to see The Standard pays more attention to the development of students’ thinking ability.As thinking is invisible,the application of thinking visualization tools can effectively make thinking visible.By using thinking visualization tools in English reading teaching,students’ thinking ability and reading skills can be cultivated.This study utilized teachers and students in a senior high school in Hebei province as subjects and carried out the research through questionnaire and interview in order to investigate the application status of thinking visualization tools and the difficulties teachers meet in the process of using them.Here are the research questions:1.What is the current situation of the application of thinking visualization tools in English reading teaching?2.What difficulties do teachers meet in the application of thinking visualization tools in English reading teaching?3.How can teachers better apply thinking visualization tools in high school English reading teaching?Through the detailed analysis and discussion of the results,the following conclusions can be drawn: Firstly,the application of thinking visualization tools in English reading classes is insufficient.Teachers use mind maps frequently,far more than other thinking visualization tools.Most teachers apply thinking visualization tools in the while-reading step.Secondly,teachers face many difficulties in the application of thinking visualization,which needs to be worked out.Many teachers lack the motivation to explore thinking visualization tools.Heavy workloads make it nearly impossible for teachers to spare time to explore thinking visualization tools.Teachers lack theoretical and practical guidance in the application of thinking visualization tools.In order to deepen teachers’ understanding of thinking visualization tools,the researcher gives some suggestions as follows.Firstly,teachers should improve their exploration of thinking visualization tools at the theoretical level as well as at the practical level.Secondly,schools should urge teachers to apply thinking visualization tools in English reading teaching and provide learning opportunities for teachers. |
