Research On The Chinese Cultural Interpretation Of The Socialist Doctrine By Chinese Intellectuals Around The 1920s

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that "To uphold and develop Marxism,we must be combined with the fine traditional Chinese culture.Only by taking roots in its own country and the fertile soil of its own history and culture can the tree of Marxist truth have its roots." The reason why China chose Marxism,socialism and the Communist Party of China certainly has its historical inevitability,but it can not ignore the deep-rooted cultural reasons.The First World War fully exposed the chronic problems of capitalism,and Chinese progressive intellectuals began to re-examine Western civilization.Against this social background,various socialist schools in the West spread in China and collided with the ancient Chinese traditional culture.In this process,the localized interpretation of socialism by Chinese traditional culture greatly promoted the spread of socialist ideology in China and ultimately enabled scientific socialism to take root in China and bear fruitful results.In the interpretation of Confucian culture in socialist theory,the Chinese academic circle mainly interpreted from three aspects:Confucian benevolent governance thought is "another name of socialism",Confucian "equality" reflects the"fundamental spirit of socialism",and Confucian social policies of benefiting the masses coincide with the "similar form of socialism".These interpretations profoundly expounded the inherent mechanism of communication between Confucianism and socialism.Anarchism,especially Kropotkin’s anarcho-communism,was introduced into China as a branch of socialism.The Chinese academic community mainly interpreted it from three aspects:the original intention of Taoism is to achieve a classless state through a mixed society,the social governance goal of Taoism’s "let nature take its course without interference" is the union of numerous free and equal people,and the"world of supreme virtue" in Taoism has become the ethical and moral basis for accepting socialist theory.In addition,intellectuals of that time generally believed that the socialist theory was in line with the value of Mohist philosophy,and its impartial love was "the most complete and civilized form of socialism."Of course,any academic or thought has its specific historical background.Around the "communication" relationship between the imported socialist doctrine and Chinese traditional culture,academia has also had debates,and this paper has examined and analyzed them.Generally speaking,regardless of the specific viewpoints of the opponents,the opposition itself shows that the opponents have been deeply influenced by socialist ideas,thus unconsciously promoting the spread of socialist ideas in China from the "negative" side;on the other hand,the reasonable claims of the opponents provide enlightenment for the creative transformation and innovative development of outstanding Chinese traditions in the new era.Examining the relationship between socialism and Chinese traditional culture,explaining the cultural soil for socialism to take root in China,and exploring the practical significance of combining "the basic principles of Marxism with Chinese outstanding traditional culture" in the new era are also the essential meanings of this paper.This paper points out that in the new era and on the new journey of building a socialist cultural power in an all-round way,under the guidance of Marxism and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era,only by realizing the mutual discovery and mutual achievement of socialism and Chinese civilization can we create a new form and new era of human civilization.
