| Language testing is an indispensable part of English language teaching.It serves and affects teaching and learning,which is called “washback”.The writing test in National Matriculation Entrance Test added continuation task.Gao Kao is a large-scale and high-risk test,whose reform will have an influence on high school English teaching and learning.As the third batch of provinces to implement the new college entrance examination,many teachers in Hunan province are in the stage of exploring the teaching of continuation writing.It is necessary to investigate the current situation of continuation task in Hunan Province.This study,starting from the two aspects of teaching which is “teaching” and “studying”,adopts questionnaire survey and interview.Taking a rural high school in Changsha City as an example,this study focuses on the following two main questions:(1)What are the positive or negative effects of the National Matriculation English Test continuation task on the English writing teaching in high school?(2)What are the positive or negative effects of the National Matriculation English Test continuation task on the English writing learning in high school?The results show that continuation writing can bring both positive and negative effects.The positive reverse effects are mainly manifested in the following aspects:(1)Both teachers and students pay more attention to English writing.(2)Reading and writing prompts teachers to improve teaching methods,broaden teaching ideas and improve teaching level.It also encourages students to improve their learning methods and improve their writing skills.(3)The new writing questions can stimulate students’ interest in writing,cultivate their logical thinking ability,and improve their imagination and creativity.(4)Promote the improvement of students’ reading and writing ability and students’ comprehensive language application ability.The negative effects are mainly manifested in:(1)Students’ English foundation is poor.Continuation writing is difficult for them.Students have the difficulty composition motion.(2)It is difficult for students to achieve qualitative improvement in a short period of time.As a result,some students can not see progress in frequent examinations and find it difficult to get a sense of achievement,resulting in certain psychological pressure.(3)The teaching utility of continuation writing is strong.Teachers overemphasize the writing skills and fail to stimulate students’ interest in writing to the greatest extent.Based on the above survey results,teaching suggestions are as follows(1)The concept of reading promoting writing should be deeply integrated into teaching,and the writing and reading classes should be combined.(2)Encourage students to output language in various forms.(3)Encourage students to evaluate each other.(4)Adopt formative evaluation instead of taking examination as the only evaluation standard.(5)Make full use of the means of promoting learning to continuation writing,and fully stimulate students’ interest and motivation in writing.Learning suggestions are as follows:(1)Try to overcome the difficulty composition motion.(2)Choose the way you are interested in for language input.(3)Take it step by step during learning continuation writing and don’t put too much psychological pressure on yourself. |
