Reading and writing are two important skills in English learning.Wang Chuming(2012)proposed the method of continuation-task which has put forward higher requirements for students’ language use ability.In2022,the new college entrance examination reform was carried out in Inner Mongolia,and the English subject employed continuation-task as a new writing test reform,which will inevitably have a backwash effect on the teaching of English writing in senior high schools.Therefore,it is necessary to study the backwash effect of continuation-task on English writing teaching in senior high schools in Inner Mongolia.Based on the interactive synergy theory and the input and output hypothesis,meanwhile this study combined with the practical situation of English writing teaching in senior high school in Inner Mongolia.And this study conducted a survey among English teachers and students in three senior high schools in Inner Mongolia through questionnaires(teacher questionnaires student questionnaires)and interviews(teacher interviews,student interviews).This study aims to study the following questions:1.What are the washback effects(positive or negative effects)of the continuation task on English writing teaching in senior high schools? 2.Why do continuation tasks have these effects on English writing teaching in senior high school? 3.How to improve the positive washback effect of continuation task on English writing teaching in senior high school?The results of the study show that the continuation-task has produced a positive washback effect on senior high school English teaching in Inner Mongolia.The positive washback effect of the continuation-task mainly focuses on the change of teaching purpose,teaching methods and teaching contents.Teachers not only focus on students’ English achievements,but also turn to cultivate students’ imagination and innovation ability.Teachers are more inclined to lead students to analyze discourse structure,enrich classroom activities and stimulate students’ interest in writing.The teaching content is more interesting.Teachers pay attention to the interaction between students and texts,and the continuation materials are richer and more interesting,thus arousing students’ interests in writing.Finally,this study puts forward some suggestions to improve the positive effect of continuation-task.
