| The “English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education”(2022 edition)put forward the further development of students’ core literacy in the subject and advocate that teachers practice the concept of English learning activities.However,current research on the concept of English learning activities is mostly in the theoretical stage,and research on the application and implementation is not yet sufficient.English reading classes in junior high school are the main type of English teaching,and this study starts from English reading teaching in junior high school to examine the application and implementation of learning comprehension,practical application,transformation and innovation,and other teaching activities.Further exploration is conducted on how to implement the concept of English learning activities in practice to promote the formation of students’ core literacy in English subject.This study investigated the English teaching activities of 18 junior high school teachers and 100 junior high school students at Tongliao Mongolian School as a case study.Based on the constructivist and theory of “learning by doing”,a combined method of quantitative and qualitative research was adopted,and data were collected through questionnaire surveys,classroom observations,and interviews.The main research questions are as follows:1.What is the current situation of the application of “the Activity-based English Learning” in the teaching of English reading in junior high schools? What is the cause of this problem?2.How to better implement “the Activity-based English Learning” in reading teaching?The research results showed that:Overall,the vast majority of junior high school English teachers have a high degree of recognition of “the Activity-based English Learning”,and some English teachers have implemented the design of English learning activities in English reading teaching activities.The design of teachers’ reading lesson activities reflects some of the requirements of “the Activity-based English Learning”,but there is room for improvement.Implementing English reading teaching based on “the Activity-based English Learning” has certain difficulties.To better promote the implementation of the concept,teachers need to focus on improving their own professional abilities.Based on the analysis of the survey results,this study puts forward some relevant suggestions on the implementation of the concept of the Activity-based English Learning in English reading teaching.First of all,teachers should deeply understand the concept of the Activity-based English Learning and improve their cognitive level.When implementing text activity teaching,we should grasp the theme of the text,language characteristics and the author’s attitude and views.The activity design must focus on three aspects of the concept of English learning activities,namely,learning and understanding activities,application and practice activities and transformation and innovation activities.Secondly,the school should provide support,carry out relevant learning lectures,discuss activities within the teaching and research group,and go out for training.Finally,education experts should go into compulsory education schools and share the experience of excellent lessons in order to better solve the practical difficulties in teaching. |
