English assignment is a vital part of the English teaching process and important feedback for classroom teaching.Designing reasonable English assignment is not only conducive to testing students’ learning effect but also conducive to promoting the comprehensive application ability of students.Gardner proposed the Multiple Intelligence Theory in 1983.He believes that each of us posse eight different kinds of intelligence.Gardner advocates diversified views on intelligence and evaluation,individualized teaching views,and equal views on students.Gardner suggests that educators apply the Multiple Intelligence Theory to English teaching and design different types of English assignment according to students’ different levels and interest to meet student’s individual needs and increase their interest in English assignment.The design of English assignment has not been paid much attention to the actual teaching process due to the pressure of exam-oriented education.Therefore,this paper will focus on the English assignment design in senior high school,mainly studying the following two questions:(1)What are the problems existing in the current English assignment design?(2)How to optimize the English assignment design of senior high school based on the Multiple Intelligence Theory?The research participants of 300 students and 5 English teachers were selected from Tongliao No.5 Senior High School.The author investigated the current situation of English assignment design in senior high school through students’ questionnaire and interview with English teachers.The survey is mainly carried out from five aspects: the difficulty and amount of English assignment,the content and type of English assignment,the evaluating way of English assignment,the function of English assignment,and students’ attitude towards English assignment.There are some problems existing in the current English assignment design of senior high school: the amount of English assignment is large and difficult;the content of English assignment is dull and repetitive;the type of English assignment is boring;the way ofevaluating English assignment takes the English teacher as the main body;students have a negative attitude towards English assignment;and the function of English assignment is not fully played.Based on the above research results,the author puts forward feasible suggestions for English teachers to optimize the English assignment design of senior high school based on the Multiple Intelligence Theory.It is hoped that the research results of this paper can deepen the cognition of English teachers to the Multiple Intelligence Theory,improve the level of English assignment design,better consolidate classroom teaching effect,exercise students’ comprehensive application ability,and promote the all-around development of students.The study of English assignment design can also encourage students to change their attitude towards English assignment,take the initiative to complete English assignment,improve their language skills,and lay a foundation for lifelong learning.However,in the study of English assignment design in senior high school,more aspects need us to improve so that English educators and learners can benefit from it.
