Class interpreting has its unique characteristics of occasion and content with a bright market prospect;hedges perform important pragmatic functions in interpreting. In the class interpreting conducted by the author at a university in the Philippines,it is found that hedges frequently appear in both source and target languages. Therefore, this interpreting practice report takes the corpus of this class interpreting as the study material and conducts quantitative and qualitative analyses to explore the frequency, distribution and counterparts of the hedges in the target language, and summarizes three common translation methods, aiming to help interpreters better understand and interpret hedges in class interpreting.Based on the quantitative analysis of the hedges in the corpus,it finds that interpreters use more Approximators than Shields during class interpreting.Among Approximators,Adaptors and Rounders are mostly used.Among Shields, the application of Attributions is the majority.Based on the qualitative analysis,it finds that the interpreter mainly uses the methods of Equivalence and Explicitation when interpreting the hedges in the class interpreting, and sometimes uses the method of Semantic Strengthening or Weakening as well.Different from previous studies, this report uses the corpus of class interpreting as the study material, while previous studies on the application of hedges in interpreting have mainly focused on materials in the area of diplomacy. However, the corpus used in this report is limited in size and diversity.Future studies can be based on larger corpora involving more interpreters and subjects.
