With the improvement of international status and influence of China,Chinese culture and language attract the attention from foreign friends.To popularize Chinese traditional culture and strengthen friendship with aliens,China has established many Confucius Institutes in many places of the world.Interpreting has played an important role in communication and learning between countries.Classes are often used in exchanging culture,so interpreting in class emerges at the right moment.Consecutive interpreting in class is different from normal interpreting.Characteristics of consecutive interpreting in class are interaction on site,immediacy,interconnectivity between subjects,multiculturalism and acceptability of target language.Entrusted by the College of International Education of Shenyang Normal University,the author worked as the interpreter in the class of Chinese situation in Summer Camp of Chinese Language and Culture for Confucius Institute of Saint-Joseph University.Taking this interpreting practice as an example,based on the characteristics of consecutive interpreting in class and difficulties in the interpreting practice,the author would like to analyze and solve problems by translation variation strategies,which are put forward by Professor Huang Zhonglian.Translation variation strategies are proposed on the basis of translation variation theory.Although translation variation strategies are often used in translation,Professor Huang mentions that the translation variation strategies can be applied in both interpreting and translation.It provides opportunities for combining translation variation strategies with interpreting.There are seven main strategies of translation variation.They are addition,omission,editing,narration,condensation,combination and adaptation.The author analyzes the guidance of variation strategies for this practice by omission,addition and editing.The application of translation variation strategies to consecutive interpreting is an innovative direction for combining translation variation strategies with interpreting.
