| The translation material of the report is selected from Feng Shizheng’s latest Book Social Governance of China in the New Era,which is mainly to study how Xi Jinping’s concept on social governance in the new era is like.As a typical political text,the material features as refined and concise wording and formal style.The major focus is to stand on the right political ground and to convey the information of the original text to the readers correctly.Based on Jirí Levy’s translation theory,this report focuses on the core idea that "the translation is actually a process of making decisions by the translator",selecting three principles—"the definitional instruction","the selective instruction" and "the minimax strategy"—"to analyze the text.In this report,the author has selected five topics that require a special focus on choices during translation,such as political metaphors,political allusions,expressions with Chinese characteristics,repetition and long sentences,attempting to analyze the process of translator’s choices and the translation strategies he adopts in the face of these linguistic phenomena.In this project,the author chooses to discard the original imageries of metaphors and allusions,conveying the true meaning behind them to ensure the coherence of the translation;as for Chinese characteristic expressions,the author adopts the method of amplification and combination to convert the original meaning;the repetitive expressions are mostly substituted by some synonymous words and expressions;in addition,the author mainly break the long sentences into short parts,reasonably arranging pauses to ensure their connection and the coherence.The translator selects this book as the translation material aiming to popularize the excellent political culture of China around the world,to facilitate the exchanges between China and the western countries on the philosophy of social governance,and to correct the western wrong impressions of China.Meanwhile,the translator tries to analyze some typical translation examples in the book under the guidance of Levy’s theory,developing some translation strategies for political texts. |
