With the growth of China's foreign trade, more and more electronic products are exported overseas. Since foreign consumers learn about new products mainly by referring to instruction manuals,high-quality product manuals are essential to the customer demand and have a positive impact on their popularity. As an informative text with its practicality and commercial value, the instruction manual has its own linguistic and stylistic features. Therefore, translators are required to fully understand its features before translation. This report analyzes features of the instruction manual of D500, one type of PDA products from Jiangsu Dongda Integrated Circuits System Engineering Technology Co., Ltd.The report discusses difficulties in translation and presents corresponding solutions. In terms of difficulties in translating technical terms, adjustment of sentences and conversion of figures, many detailed solutions are proposed. With regard to terms, being aware of conventionality and accepting established usage are both adopted to deal with frequently used words. By analysis of word meanings, the most proper word is chosen from similar expressions. Other flexible methods, such as conversion between hyponyms and hypernyms, literal translation plus explanation and word building are also applied on the basis of contexts. Furthermore, adjustment of sentence constituents and explicitation of implicit cohesion are used while some suggestions are also given to cope with two kinds of imperative moods. What's more, redundant expressions in Chinese are effectively omitted.Given that figures occupy half of the manual, the strategy, resorting to various application software, is proposed as well.
