With the advancement of globalization and the strengthening of international communication, translation,as a crucial language communication skill, has gained increasing attention. However,it is inevitable to make some errors during the translation process.Vocabulary, being the fundamental unit of language, plays a pivotal role in determining the quality of translation.Error analysis serves as an essential approach for improving students’ translation skills and quality. This research focuses on the translation of the novel The Inside of the Cup,jointly translated by 28 MTI(Master of Translation and Interpreting)students from Class 2021 of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and conducts qualitative and quantitative analysis on the lexical errors in it.Following the framework of "comprehension, expression and adaptation" proposed by Li Changshuan and Lynette Shi,the research reveals varying degrees of lexical errors in the three translation processes. The findings indicate that lexical errors in expression are the most prominent, including formal errors and semantic errors.Closely following are lexical errors in comprehension, which are mainly reflected in unfamiliar words, mischoice of words and cultural barriers. The third category is lexical errors in adaptation, mainly associated with word-for-word translation and conversion errors. The main causes of lexical errors in MTI students’ translations are analyzed from the perspectives of translation ability and translation attitude.Furthermore, some suggested measures are put forward for translation teaching and students’ learning, with the aim of effectively reducing MTI students’ lexical errors and improving their translations in future practice.
