Developing reading ability plays an important role in English teaching in the middle school.The evaluation of reading ability is also the main part in the English academic tests.The Academic Test for the Junior High School Student in Anhui province was launched in 2020 and the scoring points for reading comprehension has increased while the total score has decreased than before.As a result,researches on how to teach reading has attracted many more teachers’ attention.China Standards of English(CSE)was officially launched on June 1 in 2018,providing a series of common standards for English learners in our country and connecting English learning,teaching and testing.It is the author’s wish that this action research within the framework of CSE will share some lights on junior high English Reading Teaching.This thesis adopts the action research method and combines the teaching of English reading in Grade Seven and CSE,taking New Curriculum Standard and the current policy of Anhui senior high school entrance exam into consideration.This study tries to catch the message delivered and set up teaching aims reasonably,and works on how to design effective class activities to improve the teaching effect and what criteria are used to evaluate the students’ reading ability effectively with the reform of senior high school entrance exam.Through literature review,two rounds of action researches and the data comparison before and after the action researches,this study shows that the detailed goal description in CSE guides the direction for reading teaching,and effectively solve some problems encountered in the teaching of reading.This paper also briefly summarizes the whole reading teaching procedures with the use of CSE.
