| English reading literacy includes English reading ability and English reading character,which has become an important dimension to measure the comprehensive English quality of high school students.Teachers should cultivate students’ reading literacy.However,as far as the current teaching situation is concerned,there are still many teachers who adopt the traditional teaching mode,mainly based on the instillation of English language knowledge points,which leads to students’ lack of interest in reading lessons,weak reading ability and poor reading character.The traditional teaching model only focuses on students’ achievements but ignores the cultivation of students’ reading literacy.Therefore,this study takes the“question chain” teaching model as a scaffold for cultivating students’ English reading literacy,proposes a process of designing “question chain” in high school English reading classrooms,and applies it to high school reading teaching to test the impact of this model on students’ English reading ability and English reading character.Specifically,this study discusses and addresses the following questions:(1)How to design a “question chain” in high school English reading teaching?(2)What is the impact of the “question chain” teaching model on students’ English reading ability?(3)What is the impact of the “question chain” teaching model on the cultivation of students’ English reading character?Based on constructivism theory,scaffold teaching theory and taxonomy of educational objectives,this study summarizes the principles of “question chain” in the design of high school English reading: taking into account the gradient and correlation between questions,combining authenticity and contextual nature,and coordinating the presupposition and generative nature of problems.According to the different teaching functions of the question chain,the main types of question chain are summarized: import question chain,progressive question chain and inquiry question chain.At the same time,this study proposes a general process for questin chain design.In this study,the question chain teaching model was applied to the teaching of English reading in high schools,and a four-month experiment was conducted in two classes of the second grade of a middle school in Hanzhong City.After collecting and analyzing students’ pre-and post-test scores,questionnaires and interview data,the author concludes that: First,the question chain teaching mode has a positive impact on students’ English reading ability.Students’ ability to use reading strategies and reading performance improved;Second,the question chain teaching model has a positive impact on students’ English reading character.On the one hand,the reading experience of students in the experimental class is improved;On the other hand,many students have changed bad reading habits such as relying on dictionaries,but the amount and frequency of students’ reading have not changed. |
