After the destruction of the Southern Song Dynasty by the Yuan Dynasty,a large number of southern people entered Dadu through surrender,hostage taking,detention,seeking officials,and conscription.In the Yuan Dynasty,there were many southerners who were active in Dadu,and they could be divided into four categories: officials of south people,the Southern Song court,people of art,and low-level southerners.The sources of various officials mainly include the surrender of ministers and the recruitment of meritocracies.Before entering the Yuan Dynasty,their identities included the children of military generals,the imperial family of the Southern Song Dynasty,and the senior officials of the previous dynasty.Their activities and treatment in Dadu were important elements in the political history of Dadu,adding a magnificent color to the Yuan Dynasty.In addition to their outstanding talents,Shi Zu’s appreciation of Cheng Jufu and Zhao Mengfu may also be related to Cheng Jufu’s identity as "nephew of a subordinate","proton",and "suwei",as well as Zhao Mengfu’s identity as the descendants of the Song royal family.The exclusion of northern bureaucrats from newly arrived southern bureaucrats has affected the political life of southern bureaucrats in most cities.During the Yuan Dynasty,the southern people who were officials in Dadu put forward many positive suggestions and put them into practice in political participation,involving currency and law reform,recommending talents,attaching importance to Confucianism,and foreign relations.The royal families of the Southern Song Dynasty mainly include the Duke of Ying,Empress Dowager Xie,Empress Dowager Quan,Wang Zhaoyi,and Zhu Meiren.After entering Yan from Jiangnan,the royal families of the Southern Song Dynasty received preferential treatment in terms of banquets,rewards,and daily life in the early stages,but the late outcomes were mostly tragic,such as becoming a monk,committing suicide,and dying of illness,which formed a sharp contrast,reflecting the attitude of the rulers of the Yuan Dynasty towards the imperial family of the previous dynasty while appeasing and guarding.Artists include monks,Taoists,diviners,doctors,and others.The bottom Nanren are mainly Nansong palace maids,Nanren prisoners,and soldiers.The entry of skilled people from the South into Dadu reflects the importance that the rulers of the Yuan Dynasty attached to practical talents such as doctors,and their respect for diviners,Taoists,and other immortal alchemy.After entering Dadu,the Xiangyang Sheng Zheng Army was betrothed,reflecting the Yuan Dynasty rulers’ solicitation and pacification of them.
