A Report On Chinese Translation Of The World Trade Report 2021 From The Perspective Of Ideational Grammatical Metaphor

Aiming to deepen understanding of trends in trade,trade policy issues,and multilateral trading,the World Trade Report is WTO’s annual publication which is usually only available in English,French and Spanish.Based on Halliday’s ideational grammatical metaphor of systemic functional grammar(hereinafter referred to as SFG),this translation report takes the Chinese translation of the World Trade Report 2021 as the research object and expounds the translation process of the World Trade Report 2021 and discusses the translation strategies employed.By UAM Corpus Tool,then by manual classification and counting of all the transitivity processes,the author analyses the quantity of all the transitivity processes in both source text(hereinafter referred to as ST)and target text(hereinafter referred to as TT),and the result indicates that,in World Trade Report 2021,an economic report,the processes with largest quantity in both ST and TT are material processes,followed by relational processes and mental processes,while there are still a small proportion of verbal and existential processes and the proportion of each type of process in the ST and TT varies;after the translation,the material process has increased,while other processes have decreased.And the reason behind the changes has been analyzed.This report concludes that translation shifts are the shifts between congruent realizations and metaphorical realizations: the retention or shifts of all types of processes,shifts from one process into another,shifts from components into processes or from processes into components;the congruent realizations and the metaphorical realizations(de-metaphorical shift and metaphorical shift)emerging in the translation shift aim to accurately and faithfully construe experience as well as convey information to render the ST better conform to the reading habits of target language readers.
