| English homework is an important part of English teaching in junior high school and an important factor affecting teaching quality.English homework plays a role in reviewing,consolidating,diagnosing and correcting students’ learning;At the same time,it also provides some feedback and basis for teachers to understand,reflect and improve their teaching.The latest double reduction policy proposes that the content of homework should be reduced in quantity and improved in quality on the basis of meeting the requirements of curriculum standards and textbooks.Therefore,based on the theory of constructivism,humanism and Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences,this study identifies the following three research questions:1.What is the perception of junior high school students about English homework under the background of double reduction?2.How is the English homework assigned in junior high schools under the background of double reduction?3.What are junior high school students’ expectations of English homework under the background of double reduction? The research participants are 435 students from Tianjin No.90 Middle School in the questionnaire,and 12 students randomly selected are interviewed.The study aims to investigate the current situation and students’ expectations for English homework,find out the existing problems,analyze the reasons and put forward suggestions.Through the analysis of the questionnaire and interview results,the following conclusions are drawn: 1.A majority of students like English homework.They think English homework is very important and it will have a positive impact on English learning.2.The difficulty and quantity of the homework assigned by the teacher are appropriate for nearly half of the students.At the same time,teachers tend to the content that is exercises from textbooks or exercise books,the form of written homework,and the evaluation method of marking the correct or wrong directly.3.Students tend to choose novel content and form,and the traditional evaluation methods of correcting mistakes directly.Finally,this study puts forward reasonable suggestions on how to improve the effectiveness of English homework.Teachers should analyze the expected objectives to be achieved deeply,and determine the difficulty and quantity of homework by survey;they should also design diversified homework and unit homework based on textbook examples;And teachers need to rethink the expected objectives of homework through teaching research before teaching;Finally,teachers should improve students’ participation in homework evaluation through self-evaluation and group-evaluation. |
