In July 2021,the State Council issued the Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Students’ Homework and Off-School Training in Compulsory Education(hereinafter referred to as “Double Reduction”),which proposed that “the total amount and duration of students’ homework in compulsory education should be reduced in an all-round way,and the students’ overwork burden should be reduced.It is clearly required that the average completion time of written homework in junior high school should not exceed 90 minutes.”“Double reduction” requires teachers to improve the quality of homework design and give full play to the functions of homework diagnosis,consolidation and learning situation analysis while greatly reducing the workload of students.Through literature research,it is found that domestic and foreign scholars have conducted extensive and in-depth research on homework,but there are more single studies but fewer comprehensive studies.There is still a lack of research on the connection between English homework and education policy,especially in the context of the “Double Reduction”policy,it is necessary to pay attention to the implementation of“burden-alleviation” and “efficiency increasing” of English homework in junior high school.Therefore,on the basis of previous research and according to the author’s own teaching practice and experience,this study aims to investigate the current situation of junior high school students’ English homework in the context of the current“double reduction” policy.For this reason,after reviewing the domestic and foreign research on homework design and arrangement,homework volume,homework correction and evaluation,homework effect,and other related research,the writer determines the research framework and ideas based on the Constructivism Learning Theory,the Theory of Multiple Intelligence,and the Zone of Proximal Development and so on.A questionnaire survey was conducted among 18 junior high school English teachers,407 junior high school students,and 355 parents.The following three research questions were discussed:(1)How do junior high school English teachers design homework?(2)How to implement junior high school students’ English homework? and(3)How do teachers,students and parents view the effects of junior high school students’ English homework?SPSS 23.0 statistical software is used to analyze the collected data and data related to the current situation of junior high school students’ English homework from four dimensions: the design and arrangement of English homework,the amount of students’ English homework,the correction and evaluation of English homework,and the effect of English homework.In addition,six English teachers and six students who participated in the questionnaire were interviewed and the interview results were analyzed accordingly.The findings are as follows:(1)Teachers’ ability to design high-quality assignments needs to be improved,the level of English homework needs to be enriched,the assignment lacks coordination and communication between subjects:(2)Students’ homework correction and evaluation subject is single;students did not properly manage the wrong assignments to give full play to their real effectiveness.and(3)Parents have a weak awareness of the correct concept of homework;lack of home-school linkage for English homework.The research results showed that stakeholders such as teachers,students and parents have a direct and profound impact on the effectiveness of junior high school students’ English homework.In order to effectively implement the “burden-alleviation and efficiency increasing” of junior high school students ’ English homework,this study puts forward corresponding suggestions from three aspects of teachers,students and parents:(1)Strengthen teachers’ homework design ability;Coordinate the total amount of inter-subject homework;Improve the level of homework:(2)Enrich the diversification of students ’ homework evaluation subjects;Cultivate students’ ability of homework management;and(3)Strengthen the sense of home-school cooperation;Establish the correct concept of homework for parents.
