A Study On The Construction Of The National Image Of The Anti-Epidemic Documentary Together Against COVID-19

During the epidemic,China has shot multiple anti epidemic documentary films,reproducing anti epidemic scenes and telling anti epidemic stories,while building and disseminating the national image of China.The main research object of this article is the six episode large-scale documentary "Together Against COVID-19",which is jointly produced by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Radio and Television General Station.Through detailed and concrete analysis of its theme,audio-visual language,and narrative aspects,this article explores its internal logic and path strategies for building a national image.Research has found that "Together Against COVID-19" sets the themes of hard power in resources,technology,and economy,as well as soft power themes such as institutional advantages,Chinese spirit,national image,and international responsibility.In terms of the use of audio-visual language,the film integrates two major audio-visual languages,namely,lens and sound.It has the characteristics of montage rendering themes,panoramic aerial photography showing the full picture of things,and detailed shots depicting the emotions of characters,as well as the sound language features of using simultaneous sound to enhance authenticity,commentary to assist lens narration,and musical symbols to create a thematic atmosphere.In terms of narrative strategy,the documentary film presents a three-dimensional image of China’s country and a peaceful image of the ordinary people through a way of combining grand and micro narratives;By combining the three narrative structures of central line,plate type,and time series,it interprets the core theme of comprehensively displaying the course of China’s fight against the epidemic,and effectively constructs a multi-dimensional and three-dimensional image of China that includes a superior national system image,an efficient government image,a united national image,a life-oriented ruling image,an extremely resilient economic image,and an international image of a responsible power.Documentary films have the problems of lacking other narratives and insufficient use of folk shooting materials.In this regard,the author believes that it is necessary to actively integrate the narrative of the other,and optimize the construction of China’s image by making good use of folk materials to tell the story of China’s anti epidemic.
