| The shaping and reconstruction of historical and cultural memory can not be separated from various media.Historical and cultural documentaries play an important role in reproducing cultural values,inheriting cultural spirits,and calling for cultural memories.Documentaries record the past and contact the present in the most authentic narrative way,and construct cultural memories by interpreting various narrative symbols with hidden cultural meanings.The rise of the "Palace Museum craze" in recent years has brought the culture of the Forbidden City back to the public’s view.The documentary "The Forbidden City" is a documentary jointly launched by Beijing Satellite TV and the Forbidden City in 2021 to interpret the six hundred year development history of the Forbidden City from a new perspective.The film is divided into 12 parts to tell stories about the Forbidden City and the royal family in the Forbidden City using the time context of the development history of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,following the narrative logic of "viewing history with the city,telling the city with the history",It shows the Forbidden City under the grand historical view,and is a high-quality documentary that perfectly integrates the historical culture with the Forbidden City.This paper takes the documentary "The Forbidden City" as the research object,put it in the framework of semiotics,uses the method of text analysis and literature research,and takes the relevant theories of collective memory and cultural memory as the theoretical support.By further exploring the application of linguistic symbols and non linguistic symbols in documentaries,how to play a role in narration,and how to ritualize the presentation of text content,and how to integrate images,words and sounds to jointly call for cultural memory and guide identity,so as to provide reference for relevant research fields of documentary and cultural memory.This article first elaborates on the documentary "The Forbidden City" and related theories of cultural memory.The main body discusses the cultural memory construction of linguistic symbols,the cultural memory construction of non linguistic symbols,the ceremonial presentation of memory construction,and the functions and enlightenment of "The Forbidden City" in constructing cultural memory.Research has found that linguistic and non linguistic symbols in the documentary "The Forbidden City" are important elements that constitute the overall content of the documentary.They visually and audibly demonstrate the grandeur of royal architecture,the unique charm of cultural relics,the legendary life of emperors,and the life stories of small people in the city.They reproduce past scenes using actors’ live interpretation and overlapping screen space,highlight the contrast between the past and the present of the Forbidden City culture,connect the cultural significance inheritance from the past to the modern with a narrative tone of history,construct the cultural memory of the Forbidden City from a unique historical perspective,and guide the audience to understand the charm of traditional culture,locate identity,and obtain cultural identity. |
