A Report On The Translation Of One Step Too Far:Machine Translation Post-Editing Methods Under The Guidance Of The CEA Framework

With the continuous development of information technology,a large number of computer-aided products have emerged,and the application of machine translation has become increasingly widespread.Machine translation features high efficiency and low cost,but its limitations are also obvious.Therefore,post-editing becomes crucial to the machine-aided translation task in order to maintain a balance between translation quality and efficiency.This report is based on the practice of “machine translation + post-editing” of the first thirty chapters of One Step Too Far.“Google Translate” is chosen as the machine translation engine and “Yi CAT” as the computer-aided translation platform.The author uses the “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”(CEA)Framework proposed by Li Changshuan as the theoretical guidance to settle the problems encountered in post-editing,and proposes corresponding post-editing methods based on the Framework.In terms of comprehension,the author refers to the context and consults dictionaries to understand the source text and to improve the accuracy of the translation.In terms of expression,the author transforms static expressions into dynamic expressions,impersonal subjects into personal subjects,and passive sentences into active sentences in translation.In terms of adaptation,the author adopts such main methods as amplification,omission,and use of Chinese idioms to enhance the readability and coherence of the translation.The report has five chapters.The first chapter introduces the translation task and its translation material,as well as the significance of the task.The second chapter describes the task process,which is divided into preparation before translation,machine translation+ post-editing,and proofreading after translation.The third chapter explains machine translation post-editing and the CEA Framework.The fourth chapter is the case analysis,examining the post-editing examples from three aspects of the CEA Framework and proposing post-editing methods.The fifth chapter is the summary and reflection on the translation practice.The author hopes that this report can provide reference for post-editing based on machine translation.
