Under the context of globalization and informationization, the demand for translation is growing rapidly. Also, translation engines are constantly being updated.Because of their high efficiency and low cost, they are favored by language service providers.Even so,the translation quality of machine translation is still a far cry from human translation, failing to meet the requirements of customers.Post-editing,emerging in recent years,is an effective supplement to machine translation.Today, many language service providers begin to adopt machine translation with post-editing(MTPE)mode on a large scale. This thesis is a translation report on machine translation and post-editing.The source text is a sociological book called The Sense of Dissonance: Accounts of Worth in Economic Life.Since the source text is an informative text, with rigorous words, clear logic, compact structure, many repeated terms,it is suitable to be translated under machine translation with post-editing(MTPE)mode.Therefore,the author chooses Google Translate to pre-translate the source text, and then imports the MT output into SDL Trados.Under the guidance of context theory, the MT output is post-edited and proofread for three times.Based on the translation practice and related studies of scholars at home and abroad, the author summarizes incorrect types of MT output from lexical, syntactic and discourse aspects, and then proposes corresponding post-editing methods. At the end of this thesis, the author gives some suggestions on future research, hopes that this thesis can provide some references for scholars studying machine translation and post-editing.
