As a local organization that constitutes traditional local society, the clan is a representative of local discourse and a cultural link between the state and the local area,it is of certain theoretical and practical significance to place the study of clan culture under the paradigm of "state-local".At present, studies on clan organizations from sociology, history, anthropology, ethnology and other disciplines have explored the structure, functions, and changes of clans and their connection with the state, gradually shifting the focus from a village’s own structure to the influence of external factors on village clans, and beginning to pay attention to the influence of state power on clan organizations. However,in exploring the relationship between the state and the clan, the focus has been more on the influence of the state system on the local clan, and too much emphasis has been placed on the interference of large traditions and external factors on small traditions and local selfhood,to the neglect of the selfcultural practices of the local clan.It is worthwhile to observe the connection between clan culture and national identity,to peek into the national discourse from the clan’s self-cultural practices, and to explore the practical mechanisms by which clan cultural identity promotes national identity. This paper takes the Feng clan in Shi que village,Chengmai,Hainan as the research object, and adopts the unstructured interview method and participant observation method of anthropological fieldwork to study its clan cultural practices. The study found that: first, static clan cultural symbols such as clan ancestral complexes, generational house branches, clan elite identity, and ancestral tombs are embedded in the clan members’ living space and ideology, exploring their subtle enhancement of their identity.Secondly, the elite members’ guardianship and inheritance of the clan’s cultural symbols, clan ancestral rituals, clan history and cultural construction, and other dynamic methods enhance the flesh and blood ties and emotional resonance among clan members, strengthening their cohesion and identification with the clan.Again,in the modern social context, the elite members of the clan continue to discover and reconstruct the cultural symbols of the clan and gradually integrate them with the national culture,Forming the unique social memory of the Feng clan and Xian clan. Finally, the construction of cross-clan ethical community, cultural community and family community between tradition and modernity has created a cultural consensus among cross-clan members to build and share common governance and enhance their own cultural self-confidence.It also reflects its view of family and inter-clan interaction into the construction of the ancestral worship space, echoing the requirements of the times.Between tradition and modernity, clan members integrate clan culture and national culture in the construction of clan culture, and clan cultural identity and national identity are mutually reinforcing relationships rather than either/or relationships.
