| John Wilson came into the public eye and gained wide attention with the broadcast of "John Wilson’s 100,000 How-To’s" on HBO.Under the influence of postmodernism,all aspects of John Wilson’s documentary have obvious postmodernist characteristics.Although the overall style presents a carnivalized and strange quality,the theme and the director’s attitude behind this postmodern representation burst out more energy behind these fragments and ruins,so it is valuable to study John Wilson’s documentaries.is valuable.This article takes John Wilson’s masterpiece "John Wilson’s 100,000 How-To’s" as the research object,and studies the narrative of John Wilson’s documentary film from five aspects,namely,audiovisual language,narrative structure,characterization and thematic expression,based on postmodernism and related theories.The article is divided into six parts,and the introductory part is a brief description of the origin of this article,the current status of the study,and the significance of the study.The first chapter provides an overview of postmodern theory and John Wilson’s works,and analyzes the postmodern characteristics in John Wilson’s documentary.Chapter 2examines the audiovisual language in John Wilson’s documentary,which is divided into two aspects: sound-painting relationship and narrative symbols;Chapter 3analyzes the narrative structure of John Wilson’s documentary,which is mainly manifested as fracture,randomness and absurdity;Chapter 4 analyzes the comical characters in John Wilson’s documentary,and finds two means of expression: offense and self-deprecation.The fifth chapter summarizes the thematic expressions in John Wilson’s documentary.In conclusion,John Wilson documentaries present postmodernist narrative characteristics such as fragmentation,uncertainty,carnivalization and parody in different aspects. |
