Avoidance refers to the phenomenon that learners, although they have already acquired the target language language item to express, may give up expressing or use other forms to replace the target language due to reasons such as being unfamiliar or afraid of making mistakes.Avoidance is a common phenomenon in learners’ target language output. Therefore, this article focuses on the study of learners’ avoidance phenomena in terms of syntactic components, explores the specific reasons for learners’ avoidance phenomena, and finally provides corresponding suggestions by transcribing, statistics, and analysis of the spoken Chinese output corpus of advanced learners whose native language is English in Bilibili video software. The full text is divided into five parts,as follows:The first chapter is an introduction, mainly involving the reason for choosing the topic and the significance of the research, theoretical basis, research ideas, and research methods. In addition,it also combs the previous research on avoidance phenomenon.Chapter 2 is an explanation of the source and selection of the corpus.Firstly, the source of the corpus,Bilibili video software,is briefly introduced. Then it defines the concept of avoidance phenomenon, the selected research objects, and the video selection criteria. Finally, the selection criteria and classification of the corpus of avoidance phenomena studied in this paper are explained. The third chapter mainly analyzes the data of syntactic component avoidance in spoken output of advanced Chinese learners whose native language is English.(1)Firstly,a statistical analysis was conducted on the overall avoidance of syntactic components in learners’ oral output. The author found that Chinese learners whose native language is English have different avoidance situations with respect to the six major syntactic components, and the order of avoidance times from high to low is:predicate>object>adverbial>attribute>subject>complement.(2)Secondly,the author classifies which words and phrases are the main syntactic components that learners avoid.(3)Finally,the author conducted a statistical analysis of the avoidance forms adopted by learners when they encounter avoidance phenomena, and found that the avoidance forms adopted by learners can be summarized as giving up expression and substitution, with learners preferring to use substitution as an avoidance form.In the form of substitution,it is further subdivided into the following categories: substitution of simplicity for complexity, substitution of similar expressions, circuitous explanations, substitution of mother tongue, and use of body language. In Chapter 4,based on the data analysis in the previous chapter, the author summarizes and analyzes the reasons for the avoidance phenomenon in subjects, predicates, objects, attributives, adverbials, and complements in turn.It is found that the main reason for the avoidance phenomenon in syntactic components of learners is due to learners’ lack of familiarity with Chinese vocabulary and pragmatic rules.Secondly, the author analyzes the reasons why learners adopt avoidance forms one by one,and finds that the reasons why learners adopt avoidance forms are related to sentence context, communication environment, learners’ Chinese proficiency, learners’ mother tongue, and teachers’ teaching. In Chapter 5,the author summarizes the conclusions drawn in the previous chapters and provides several teaching suggestions: First, teachers need to conduct language comparison before teaching;Secondly, teachers should pay attention to language input and strengthen low-frequency expression input in the classroom;Third, teachers should pay attention to the problems that arise in learners’ output, reflect after class, and help learners solve problems;Fourth, teachers should pay attention to the reproduction of learned language items in the new curriculum to deepen learners’ memory.
