The translation material E-commerce and Digital Economy Programme published in June 2022 is selected from the official website of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.The full text is translated and studied to complete this translation report.The material reviews the development of e-commerce and digital economy worldwide in2022 under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and provides an outlook on the future development of it.The business text selected by the translator is characterized by complex sentences with strong logical relationships between clauses.Relevance theory is able to take into account of the cognitive environment of target readers and provide suitable translation methods for the selected business text,making target readers to grasp the meaning of the original context with minimum processing efforts.Therefore,the translator composes the practice report under the guidance of Gutt’s translation theory.In line with the principle of optimal relevance,the translator presents case analysis in Chapter 4 under the guidance of relevance theory.And the specific application of the theory in business text translation is discussed at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The relevance at lexical level is improved by the application of conversion,explication and amplification,and the relevance at syntactic level is promoted through the adoption of splitting and restructuring.And the translator adopts the method of adding connectives and restoring pronouns at textual level to solve the problem of logical conjunction,explicating the inner logical relationship of the original text.In a word,according to Gutt’s elaboration on relevance theory,the translator addresses many problems in the translation process,such as the translation of long and difficult sentences,the phenomenon of noun plague and the absence of meaning,with the aim to reduce the processing efforts and cognitive load of the target readers and achieve the optimal relevance between the translation and the reader. |
