Film is the seventh art combining time and space.Film not only reflects the thickness of time,but also reflects the breadth and depth of space.After the two World Wars,the film narrative gradually mature,but in the study of film,time has become a more powerful element.In Marcel Mardan’s research,he argues that cinematic space is subordinate to time.The refutation based on this point of view is the direct motivation for this paper to study film space.In the 1970 s of last century,the study of space began to surge in humanities and social sciences.In the post-industrial era,various ideological trends affected the creation and research of films,and finally pointed to the shift of film narrative from time to space.The first film set in Chongqing was "Astray".After Chongqing became a municipality directly under the central government,more and more Chongqing films began to emerge,gaining considerable reputation and box office results.From 1990 to2021,Chongqing films have made a leap forward in terms of both quantity and quality.Then,how does the director use the film space to complete the narrative? In contrast to Mardan,this paper chooses the perspective of narrative space to study the practice,expression and presentation of narrative space in Chongqing films.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter tries to clarify the concept of Chongqing film and narrative space and clarify the research object of this paper.The second chapter studies the spatial presentation of Chongqing film narration.The third chapter,based on the classification of narrative space,selects the physical space,social space and spiritual space in Chongqing films to explore how the creators use space for narrative.The fourth chapter studies the cultural representation of Chongqing films.In the conclusion part,the author refutes Mardan’s views and summarizes the narrative space of Chongqing films from three aspects: form,content and meaning.This paper holds that,in form,Chongqing films form an integral narrative style through its own geographical environment and history.In terms of content,the director shows the characteristics of Chongqing’s spatial production based on physical space,social space and spiritual space.In a sense,the city in Chongqing movies is built on the real Chongqing space,which ultimately points to the spatial construction of "heterotopia".In the dismantling and reshaping of Chongqing’s urban culture and image,the charm of Chongqing space is released and expressed. |
