| The establishment of the Safavid dynasty in 1501 not only marked the peak of Iran’s historical strength, political unity and economic prosperity, but also marked the pinnacle of Islamic art development in Iran.At that time, the creation of miniatures mainly relied on the sponsorship of Shah and the upper nobility,so the capital city of Tabriz gathered many outstanding painters and craftsmen, forming the famous Tabriz school of painting. This paper mainly uses the research method of iconology, divided into five parts to study miniatures of the Tabriz school in the Safavid dynasty. The introduction part of this paper summarizes the research status at home and abroad, introduces the research purpose, research ideas and methods. The second chapter of the paper provides an overview of the society and art of the Safavid dynasty. The third chapter of the paper carries on the pre-iconographical description to miniatures of the Tabriz school, respectively from the five aspects of subject matter, composition, modeling, color, spiritual perspective. The fourth and fifth chapters are the focus of the entire article. The fourth chapter of the paper carries on the iconography analysis of miniatures of the Tabriz school, and analyzes the meanings of Islam,Sufi mysticism,Zoroastrianism and other symbols in the pictures. It can be seen that during this period, the influence of Chinese and Byzantine art was gradually fading, and the native Persian national characteristics were highlighted, forming its own national style and aesthetic characteristics. The fifth chapter is the interpretation of iconology, which makes an in-depth analysis and interpretation of the historical changes and epochal spirit in various aspects of the Tabriz school of painting, such as society, politics, religion and culture. The painters of this period were in the tradition of the Herat school of the Timurid dynasty, especially the fine painting of the previous master Bizard.Influenced by the social fashion at that time, the creators often used secular love to describe the holy, lofty and mysterious god love in their paintings, and also unconsciously brought their own religious concepts and will aspirations into the depiction of specific images. To sum up,this courtly art, which shows the idea of God’s love through illustrations of literary classics, aims at the "noble principle" and realizes the "true" state of the painted object with the mind’s eye(namely the "enlightened eye"),so that the individual spirit of oneself is dissolved in the absolute spirit of Allah. It embodies the value belief of pursuing eternity beyond the present, the Sufi mysticism, the aesthetic insistence on a sense of order and the attachment to the secular desire. |
