Fiction and drama are two different literary styles, but the relationship between them is not opposed to each other and has clear barriers, but is interdependent and complementary to each other. Many writers actively incorporate drama elements into their novels, using it as a narrative content and means, which has become a remarkable literary phenomenon.Benefiting from his long-term experience in creating modern drama,Chen Yan’s novel works have opened up new literary expression spaces. He has fully activated all his cultural memories about drama, and through the narrative form of integrating drama and literature,he records the joys and sorrows of the general public in Xi’an,shaping a typical group of "drama characters",displaying a broad social life and a profound sense of reality. The paper intends to approach from the perspective of stylistic integration, focusing on the multiple connections between Chen Yan’s novels and dramas, and exploring the narrative art of dramas in Chen Yan’s novels.Based on the realistic context of Chen Yan’s literary creation, this paper discusses the narrative effect brought about by the interweaving of Chen Yan’s novels and drama elements from three aspects: drama and novel characters, drama and novel plot, drama and novel meaning. At the same time, analyzing the absorption and reference of drama forms in Chen Yan’s novels,as well as the value and significance demonstrated thereby,in order to clarify the stylistic integration characteristics and aesthetic implications of Chen Yan’s novels. The paper is divided into four chapters for discussion. The first chapter mainly analyzes the reasons why Chen Yan integrated traditional Chinese drama into his novel creation. The regional culture characterized by drama s nurtured by the physical geography environment of Shanxi Province,as a spiritual nurture, provides a continuous stream of inspiration and unique expression paradigm for Chen Yan’s novel creation.Long term work experience in a theater troupe provided Chen Yan with rich literary experience and writing materials. The awareness of stylistic integration made Chen Yan consciously incorporate elements of traditional Chinese drama into his novel creation. The second chapter explores the internal coupling and intertextual relationship between the content of Chen Yan’s novels and specific elements of drama from three aspects: drama and character images, drama and plot content, drama and textual meaning. The third chapter reveals the deep influence of traditional Chinese drama expression techniques on Chen Yan’s narrative strategies in his novels from four aspects: stereotype of characters, humorous Kehun techniques, the dream narratives mixing with myth and fact, and the tendency of novels to be staged. The fourth chapter, based on the previous research, analyzes the multiple meanings of the integration and coexistence between Chen Yan’s novels and dramas,in order to more rationally examine his conscious pursuit of drama narrative methods. In the conclusion section,by reviewing the previous text, the personalized characteristics and limitations of Chen Yan’s novel creation are evaluated, and it is pointed out that he has made beneficial explorations into the integration of novel and traditional Chinese drama styles.
