College students, who are at an important stage of growth and transformation with facing high expectations and pressure, are one of the groups with high incidence of depression.Rumination refers to repetitively thinking over events or emotions. It is divided into positive rumination and negative rumination.Previous studies have shown that rumination affects depression, but longitudinal studies have been insufficient to verify the predictive relationship between rumination and depression,as well as the internal mechanism of rumination and depression.Forgiveness,as a positive emotion regulation and interpersonal relationship repair strategy, can alleviate the occurrence and development of depression, and studies have shown that rumination can not only affect the current level of forgiveness, but also play a predictive role in the development trend of forgiveness. Therefore, this study will explore the intertemporal mediating effect of forgiveness between rumination and depression in order to reveal the dynamic psychological mechanism within them.Based on these objectives, this study conducts three sub-studies,which aim to explore the intertemporal mediating effect of forgiveness between rumination and depression, and carries out the group counseling of positive rumination thinking training to help alleviate depressive symptoms in college students.(1)Study 1: The relationship between Rumination, forgiveness and depression: a crosssectional studyA questionnaire survey was conducted among 502 college students to explore the correlation among rumination, forgiveness and depression, the predictive effect of rumination on depression, and the mediating effect of forgiveness between them.(2)Study 2: The relationship between Rumination, forgiveness, and depression: a longitudinal studyA follow-up study was conducted on 187 college students for three months with pretest and posttest, and a longitudinal mediation model between T1 and T2 was constructed to further explore the cross-time effect of rumination on depression among college students,as well as the cross-time stability of the mediation effect of forgiveness.(3)Study 3: The effect of positive rumination training on forgiveness and depression of college students: an intervention studyOn the basis of quantitative research, the group counseling intervention of positive rumination thinking was conducted on 36 college students, which combined offline and online form. The changes of rumination thinking level, forgiveness level and depressive symptoms of group counseling members were investigated. The results showed that positive rumination, negative rumination, forgiveness and depression were correlated in pairs. In both the immediate model and the delayed model, positive and negative rumination can influence depression through the mediating effect of forgiveness, and the mediating mechanism of forgiveness is stable across time.Positive rumination training group counseling can improve the level of positive rumination and forgiveness, and reduce the level of negative rumination and depression. This paper enriches the research on the relationship between positive rumination and other variables, further explored the internal mechanism of rumination and depression, and provided strong evidence for mental health workers to reduce the level of depression from the perspective of forgiveness and rumination. At the same time,it proves that positive rumination training group counseling can be carried out in the form of both offline and online, which has the advantages of being free from time and space restrictions and providing diversified support, and can better meet the mental health needs of college students.
