The core of documentary film is truth,of course, record is not equal to pure record.John Grierson of England first used "documentary" to refer to this kind of documentary film in a comment in 1926,which gave a most influential definition of documentary film: creative treatment of reality. Therefore, creative processing of real-life shots and the use of shots to shape, choose, and arrange stories that occur in space play an important role in enhancing the narrative of documentaries.Lens language is a unique visual language, and its narrative presentation is constantly changing and breaking through with the development of the new media era.The essential attribute of documentaries is authenticity, and true records are the most attractive feature of documentaries.Only true stories can move people more. Therefore, how to break the traditional narrative style and approach of documentary films, and continuously break through in narrative methods, forms, and strategies has become the driving force for documentary directors to continuously improve. The author attempts to explore how to use different scenes, shooting methods, and montage structures to achieve better narrative effects in documentaries, while ensuring authenticity,by analyzing the use of different scenes in camera narration,as well as the perspectives of long shot and montage narration, through the analysis and research of the "camera narrative" in the graduation work "The War of the Ancient City",Research on how the use of shots reflects and enhances narrative power.
