Abstract/Summary:
Zhang Juzheng,a famous statesman and reformer in the Ming Dynasty, assisted Wan Li in initiating the "Wanli New Deal" with his practical measures.Direct Interpretation of the Four Books is an imperial education book compiled under the leadership of Zhang Juzheng, and its instruction to Wanli is an important reflection of his view on governance. In the middle and late Ming Dynasty, the social malpractices had been deep.As a key hub of the political situation at that time,Zhang Juzheng was deeply aware that behind the surface of development and prosperity, there was a hidden system of disdiscipline, decadent administrative efficiency crisis of officials, financial management crisis of poor people, excessive use of money, talent management crisis, etc.,which laid the foundation for the formation of Zhang Juzheng’s view on governance. In this context,Zhang Juzheng gradually practiced his path and vision of governance, which contributed to the completion of the Four Books of Direct Interpretation. With the center of "The Four Books Straight Interpretation",we can probe into the true connotation of Zhang Juzheng’s view of governance: the view of self-cultivation "tending to your right, aspiring to your high",the view of loving the people "the way of governance,in winning the hearts of the people",the view of talent "with the ability to enable the ability" and the view of practicality "so that use is valuable,to apply is appropriate".From the above four different aspects of the systematic elaboration of Zhang Juzheng’s view of governance, and then for the discussion of Zhang Juzheng’s view of governance provides another interpretation path.Wanli early years, the Ming society under the guidance of Zhang Juzheng governance outlook burst out a strong vitality, under the guidance of its strong cabinet,Wanli early years of the Ming society formed a "share its name ","under the evening line","Taxes are not lost, the Treasury is full","each do their best things " social scene,Zhang Juzheng for the country for the people governance outlook to promote the Ming society at the same time,However,it also had its limitations: "his power reached to the sky." and failed to fully respect Wanli’s psychological growth and the powerful imperial power behind it,which sowed the factor of collapse for the implementation of his view of governance.Zhang Juzheng’s "tragedy" of governance is the historical inevitability from the perspective of imperial power. Finally, taking "the Direct Interpretation of the Four Books" as the main reference point and synthesizing his historical achievements, this paper tries to study the Ming society in the early years of Wanli under the rule of Zhang Juzheng from an objective and fair perspective.Under the situation of "after Zhang Juzheng era" and "increasingly difficult to see the danger of the country",Zhang Juzheng was more and more missed by the people of his time."Although there were many obstacles ahead, many backstabbing, but I am not afraid" was the best note to explain Zhang Juzheng’s view of governance.
