Celeste Ng is a new generation Chinese American female writer. Her works Everything I Never Told You and Little Fires Everywhere have received widespread attention both domestically and internationally.Unlike previous Chinese American writers, the characters in her works are not limited to Chinese immigrants and their descendants, but extend to some minority groups that exist in American society. In her novel Little Fires Everywhere,Celeste Ng tells the story of different families, social classes, and ethnic groups living in a utopian community where rules are paramount.Ecological feminism combines feminism with ecological criticism, pays attention to the relationship between women and nature, and is committed to eliminating the oppression of nature,as well as injustice such as anthropocentrism, gender discrimination and racial discrimination.Ecological feminism advocates the construction of a diverse and healthy ecosystem and calls for the awakening of female consciousness and the construction of female values. This thesis takes Little Fires Everywhere as the text and explores the fundamental connection between nature and women in the novel from the perspective of ecological feminism.Firstly,Celeste Ng’s works reflect the serious issues of racial discrimination, gender discrimination, and environmental destruction in American society.Through sorting out the content of the story and combining it with the theory of ecological feminism, the writer summarizes the root causes of the social ecological crisis and the plight of women in the novel. And then, the author analyzes how the natural environment of Shaker Heights is oppressed and controlled by humans, and how women are constrained by patriarchal society, racial discrimination and traditional social dogma.Secondly, the awakening and resistance of nature can be summarized by analyzing the timeline of the story and the use of the image of “fire” in the novel. At the same time, further analysis will be conducted on how female characters of different races, classes, and families in the novel resist and break through the constraints of self pursuit to enhance women’s value. Finally, because the issues of racial discrimination, gender discrimination, and environmental destruction that still exist in the current reality of society, the author deeply interprets the novel from the perspective of ecological feminism, believing that only by truly transforming human’s attitudes towards nature and actively engaging in environmental protection movements can we construct a harmonious relationship between man and nature. At the same time, only by further promoting the women’s liberation movement and eliminating the thought of anthropocentrism and male dominance, can the gender relationship between women and men become more equal and the whole social ecology become more harmonious and stable.
