Study On The Wenxindiaolong Critisim Of Jiyun

Ji Yun ‘lived up to the people’s expectations with scholarly articles’,held a high position,and had many disciples.For teaching considerations,he commented on many ancient and modern classics.Although predecessors and current scholars have made some gratifying achievements in the research of Ji Yun’s comments,there are often thoughtful and wonderful words in the comments needed to be further supplemented and improved due to Ji Yun’s extensive reading.In view of this,drawing on a wide range of previous research findings,this paper takes the commentaries of Wen Xin Diao Long written by Ji Yun as the research object to analyze the overall appearance of them.The specific approach is to identify the editions and clear up misunderstanding in the scholarly community and then to analyze the content of the comments,conduct in-depth exploration of the comments,and summarize the characteristics and value of the Ji Yun’s comments on the Wen Xin Diao Long striving to provide case studies for the study of ancient Chinese commentary,and also enriching the content of Ji Yun’s research.Apart from the introduction and conclusion sections,the full text consists of five chapters,as follows:The first chapter introduces the overview of the version of Wen Xin Diao Long commented by Ji Yun,and analyzes the misplaced content caused by the circulation of the version.Chapters 2 and 3 summary Ji’s commentary on Wen Xin Diao Long in three ways: content examination,structural analysis and literary interpretation.First,driven by the purity of Qianjia’s academic style and the rigour of his approach to learning,he incorporated proof-reading and examination into his commentary,which was innovative in nature and consisted of three main categories: textual examination,exegetical correction and factual examination.Secondly,as one of the purposes of his commentaries was to supervise the reading of younger generation,Ji Yun also paid particular attention to the analysis of chapters,especially the revelation of the main idea and the structure of the chapters.Thirdly,Ji Yun focused on the interpretation of Liu Xie’s theories,in which he fused his own literary ideas,such as his commentary on The Way the Origin,which shows the importance he attached to the aesthetic pursuit of a ’natural’ text that was functional and aesthetic,while promoting Confucianism and transmitting its values.Chapters 4 and 5 summary the features,values and limitations of Ji’s commentary on Wen Xin Diao Long.This is a limitation of Ji Yun’s commentary,which pursues simplicity and precision,and sometimes lacks precision in analysis,giving it the impression of being based on empty assumptions.However,he breaks with his predecessors’ rhetorical approach to commentary and provides a profound insight into Liu’s literary theory,pointing the way for future research.Overall,the value of Ji Yun’s commentary goes far beyond its shortcomings.
