| After Protestant ideas were introduced into France in the 16 th century,a large number of Protestants emerged in France, changing the traditional community structure. In the context of social change, religious groups need to build community boundaries in order to prevent the social structure from being corrupted and overturned. The construction of community boundary is first reflected in the concept, which makes the community members represented through behavior or symbols. In the 16 th century,in the sectarian conflicts in France, churches were the most fiercely contested between Catholics and Protestants. With the expansion of the conflicts, they gradually expanded from inside churches to urban spaces. The destruction of the communal ritual space may lead the community into a crisis of faith and the erosion of the community structure. In 16 th century France society, there was a notion that the destruction of the communal communal ritual space threatened to plunge the group into a crisis of faith and the erosion of the community structure. The violence derived from this concept can not only show the use and perception of space by religious believers, but also help to deepen the understanding of the psychological state of the French religious community in the 16 th century. There are four parts in this essay: From the perspective of ritual space, this paper explores the boundary construction and identity problems in the conflict between Catholicism and Protestantism in France in the 16 th century. The first two parts of this paper explore the understanding and representation of holiness in 16 th century French Catholicism and Protestantism from the dimension of ritual space, which is the core of this study. The different representations of sacredness between the two groups are reflected in religious rituals and other aspects. The third part adopts a concrete research method, exploring the psychological state and identity of French religious communities in early modern times from three aspects: the boundary of the city wall, the boundary of the cemetery and the boundary of sound. The fourth part is a theoretical deepening of the conflict behavior pattern between Catholicism and Protestantism in France in the 16 th century, focusing on how Protestantism deconstructs the Catholic belief pattern. The infiltration of Protestants led Catholics to believe that their faith was divided, leading to the massacre of Huguenots by St.Bartholomew in 1572. |
